Giovanna Campani: Razzismo di genere

La questione: esistono delle differenze significative nelle capacità intellettuali, sociali, emotive, fisiche tra gli uomini e le donne, indipendentemente dall’epoca e le società alle quali appartengono?- interpella da tempo tutte le scienze che trattano della natura e della società. Una seconda questione si aggiunge alla prima: queste differenze, se esistono, sono innate o acquisite? L’ipotesi del determinismo biologico rispetto al maschile e al femminile (eterno mascolino, essenza femminile, natura maschile e femminile)- una volta superate le narrazioni mitiche e religiose- continua ad essere sostenuta non solo da biologi, ma anche da filosofi e perfino da una parte del movimento femminista. Si tratti di uomini e donne, o di bianchi e di neri, invocare delle ragioni biologiche per spiegare delle differenze reali o immaginarie tra gli individui a seconda del loro sesso, della loro razza o della loro società, significa cercare delle ragioni al di fuori della storia e trasformare dei fatti storici in fatti naturali e dunque non modificabili. L’approccio che si vuole scientifico si trasforma così in approccio ideologico (e la storia della scienza mostra che gli scienziati non sono separati dalle ideologie dominanti nel loro tempo). La questione se esiste un determinismo biologico alla differenza tra uomini e donne rinvia ad altre disuguaglianze, al razzismo, alle differenze tra dominanti e dominati, o tra società, nonché alla ricerca di un fondamento biologico dell’omosessualità, rispetto ad una sessualità considerata “normale”. Nel XIX secolo, gli strumenti per “biologizzare” le diseguaglianze erano le misure fisiche dei crani e del cervello. I criteri moderni sono i tests cognitivi, l’immagine del cervello e i geni. Dietro queste pratiche si profila ancora lo spettro di un uso della biologia per giustificare le diseguaglianze tra i sessi e i gruppi umani.


Giovanna Campani, dottore in Filosofia ed Etnologia, docente di Pedagogia Interculturale e Antropologia di Genere presso l’Università degli Studi di Firenze, Facoltà di Scienze dell’Educazione. Tra le sue ultime pubblicazioni: "Dalle minoranze agli immigrati: la questione del pluralismo culturale e religioso in Italia", Unicopli, Milano, 2008; "Migranti nel mondo globale", Sinnos, Roma, 2007.
