Le origini della Summer School. A Passignano, a partire dal quel 1993

Un contributo che trasmettiamo con piacere, anche per non dimenticare, ci viene inviato da Tiziana Garofalo. Qualcosa sul suo ricordo della Summer School e del castello monastero di Badia a Passignano.

A Passignano, a partire dal quel 1993

Badia di Passignano: un castello monastero immerso tra le colline del Chianti, un luogo di altri tempi, in cui si respira ancora l’aria del Medioevo nella struttura, nella presenza dei monaci vallombrosani, nella mistica degli ambienti dove il tempo è scandito dai rintocchi della campana ed i canti liturgici risuonano tra le volte affrescate.
È proprio in questo luogo, così austero e silenzioso, il cui fascino è accresciuto dal contrasto col mondo esterno e con il dinamismo frenetico della vita quotidiana che in una luminosa mattina del Maggio 1993 ho scoperto il piacere di far lezione in maniera alternativa; non in un’affollata aula universitaria, dove spesso la voce degli insegnanti diventa monotona nella routine del prendere appunti, dello sfogliare le pagine di un libro o nell’osservare lucidi proiettati sulle pareti, ma in una cornice d’altri tempi e con un coinvolgimento del tutto particolare di ogni partecipante.
Grazie infatti all’iniziativa del prof. A. Nesti, il nostro docente di sociologia, del quale già seguivo il corso, stimolata fin dalla sua presentazione dal fascino e dal potere carismatico del suo parlare e del suo modo di porsi nei confronti degli studenti era stata organizzata una giornata di studio e riflessione proprio alla Badia di Passignano.
In questa giornata ogni studente del corso avrebbe esposto una sua relazione e ricordo l’ansia con la quale sono arrivata legata alla novità di tutta la situazione. Un’ansia che però si è trasformata subito in stupore e meraviglia osservando quanto il luogo fosse “magico” ed accogliente. Non solo, ma don Biagio della Vecchia, all’epoca priore dell’abbazia, per farci sentire più a nostro agio ci ha invitati calorosamente a visitare l’abbazia, compresi i luoghi dove i turisti in genere non vengono accompagnati, quale la pittoresca cucina dei primi monaci con le relative suppellettili. Da non trascurare poi che lo stesso don Biagio preparò con le sue mani per noi studenti e per il professore un ottimo pranzo! Era quello che ci voleva per rendere ancor più completa, con il momento conviviale, la nostra giornata d’altri tempi.
È per questa esperienza così innovativa e particolare, oltre che per gli argomenti di cui discutemmo attraverso le nostre relazioni che mi sento tuttora una “cofondatrice” della Summer School. Sì, perché proprio un anno dopo, per iniziativa del prof. A. Nesti, al cui progetto iniziale hanno poi aderito alcune istituzioni universitarie europee, nonché molti organismi locali tra cui l’Università di Firenze, la Regione Toscana, la Provincia, il comune di Tavarnelle Val di Pesa ed i monaci stessi della Badia di Passignano, è nata la International Summer School on Religions in Europe (I.S.S.R.E.).
La sua prima sessione si è svolta nell’estate del 1994 e naturalmente io non potevo mancare, anche se con grande trepidazione, sapendo che sarebbero stati presenti studenti di varie parti del mondo, ma soprattutto docenti di fama internazionale, come Peter Antes dell’Università di Hannover. Il prof. A. Nesti è colui che ha coordinato nel tempo la Summer School, dandole quell’impronta tutta particolare che essa ha mantenuto fino ad oggi.

Sebbene nel 2002 sia stata trasferita a San Gimignano, la Summer School non è un semplice corso estivo durante il quale si riflette sul fenomeno religioso, ma è un’occasione di incontro, di scambi di esperienze, un modo per stringere o riallacciare legami amicali e culturali tra intellettuali interessati al tema e provenienti dalle più disparate località. È la realizzazione di un sogno del prof. A. Nesti che è diventato per lui una realtà tra le tante realizzazioni della sua vita di ricercatore e docente universitario, ma si rinnova ogni anno come un sogno per gli studenti che vi partecipano, anche per i veterani come me.
Ogni anno, ad esempio, in cui la Summer School si teneva alla Badia, ho vissuto la stessa emozione della prima volta quando ci siamo tutti riuniti nella magnifica sala del refettorio con l’affresco dell’ultima cena del Ghirlandaio, dove venivano distribuiti, in una cerimonia ufficiale, gli attestati di frequenza, alla presenza delle autorità locali. Ripensare alla Summer School è per me come rivivere momenti di quella sacralità che è l’essenza misteriosa della religione non attraverso cerimonie liturgiche, ma con una riflessione profonda e condivisa, è quasi percepire quell’afflato religioso che solo un particolare ambiente ed una particolare cerchia di persone riescono a creare.
Di questo devo ringraziare ancora una volta il prof. A. Nesti perché ora mi rendo conto che il professore aveva previsto quale effetto avrebbe prodotto su noi studenti quella prima giornata di studio alla Badia di Passignano, aveva sicuramente previsto che non saremmo rimasti insensibili e che questa esperienza avrebbe segnato una tappa fondamentale della nostra formazione umana e culturale, oltre che spirituale.
